Watchlists and Email Alerts: the similarities
Watchlists, email alerts and newsletters all get sent directly to the recipients mail box, making them all useful ways to share information that you have found.
In contrast to newsletters, for both watchlists and email alerts it is the user who decides what to receive in terms of content. For watchlists, the user can opt in and out of channels. For email alerts, the user can select to receive these or not, and also can specify which agents and / or folders will generate email alerts.
The advantage of using the email alerts is that it is very easy to set up. In the advanced fields of Email Alerts you can simply select the folders from which you would like to receive alerts.
Bear in mind, each user needs to change his / her own settings and then to choose the folders from which they would like information.
The advantage of Watchlists is that the feature is more flexible and opens greater possibilities:
- Users can create their own Watchlists, and in this way take a more active and personalized role in CI.
- Built-in statistics let the administrator see which Watchlist channels are most popular and which users are most active.
- Watchlists encourage collaboration by allowing readers to leave their comments and reactions.
